Chemicals

At Stjerne-Chrom we use chemicals that can be dangerous for both the environment and people. We are therefore certified according to ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 14001: 2015 and ISO 45001: 2018.

Stjerne-Chrome's goal for the work with chemicals is:

Zero environmental accidents, and no work accidents caused by chemicals.

We are very aware of the risk that chemicals can pose, and therefore all handling of chemicals takes place indoors on areas without drains to public sewers. The floors in the production areas are coated with fiberglass and are regularly inspected for tightness during the routine cleaning. Under our production vessel, a collection has been established, where any. waste is led to our own wastewater treatment plant. We have to use a number of hazardous chemicals in order to meet customers' requirements for different types of surface treatment. Therefore, all employees at Stjerne-Chrom receive thorough training in handling chemicals and the correct use of personal protective equipment. We are happy to advise on the most environmentally friendly surface treatment for your specific items, taking into account how the finished product is to be used.

REACH

The European Commission has adopted a regulation (REACH) to ensure that the more than 100,000 different types of chemicals used in the EU are documented in terms of safety for humans and the environment. The REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances) covers all chemicals that are produced, imported or used in an amount of min. 1 tonne annually by a company in an EU Member State. For a number of the most hazardous chemicals to health and the environment, companies are required to use a less hazardous chemical if possible. As a result of requirements from REACH, we phased out the use of Chromium (VI) in 2019.

RoHS

The RoHS executive order requires manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment that the equipment must not contain certain types of chemicals / substances. By default, CR (III) or Chromium-free products are used. For chromating aluminum, we use a product based on CR (III) called Chromital. For electro-galvanizing, a product based on CR (III) called Chromit is used. You can be issued a COC for your RoHS compliance products.

Conflict minerals

Conflict minerals are substances that are extracted in and sold from a country with internal conflicts, e.g. between ethnic groups or between a dictatorial regime and the people of the country. These are primarily minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo and the neighboring countries of Central Africa. Conflict minerals are primarily gold, tungsten, tin and coltan.

Stjerne-Chrom works actively to prevent trade in conflict minerals. Tin is part of our processes, and therefore we have asked our supplier of Tin to explain whether they use conflict minerals in their products. You can receive our supplier's statement. Internationally, there is a growing awareness of the use of conflict minerals. In 2010, the United States passed the Dodd-Frank Act, which requires U.S. manufacturers to monitor and assess whether they purchase conflict minerals through their subcontractors.
