MIL-DTL-5541

The standard has the following scope: Chromation of aluminium.

The standard MIL-DTL-5541 covers 2 different types of chromating of aluminum and 2 classes. We carry out chromating according to MIL-DTL-5541 type II (without hexavalent chromium). The process is monitored in relation to the standard's requirements by our own laboratory. We perform all required tests at set intervals.

We carry out 3rd party control of the process at KIWA Norway. See the certificate here

Quality test:

  • Salt spray test (ASTM B 117)
  • Measurement of voltage loss ( Class 3 )

We will send the COC and test reports on request.

When ordering a surface treatment of a subject, cf. MIL-DTL-5541, the following must appear in the purchase order:

  • Reference to the standard here, e.g. MIL-DTL-5541F
  • What type of chromating: e.g. Type II
  • Which class: Class 1A or 3
  • Special requirements for production, including any additional requirements for packaging, masking etc. before surface treatment
  • Color requirements and uniformity
  • Instructions on specific contact marks
  • Must possibly contact marks are removed during touch up, this must be clearly stated
  • Accept criteria for quality inspection

It is important for both us and you that we understand your requirements. Therefore, we like to spend some time making sure that the purchase order is as complete as possible, so that we can produce your product in accordance with the requirements you set.

AMS 2700 / QQ-P-35

The standard has the following scope: Passivation of stainless steel. The standard AMS2700 covers 2 different methods of passivation and 8 types. We passivate stainless steel according to AMS 2700 method 1; passivation in nitric acid, type 6 low temperature or 7 medium temperature.

The standard specifies 4 classes, the classes determine how many units must be tested during production, we follow your purchase order and where nothing is specified, class 2 is used. The process is monitored in relation to the standard's requirements by our own laboratory. We perform all required tests at the standard's established intervals.

We carry out 3rd party control of the process at KIWA Norway. See the certificate here
